ALBUM'S I HAVE BOUGHT THIS WEEK

Example's new studio album is one of my favourite albums at the moment. I have been a fan since him and Professor green were signed on 'The Beat' label. His new album has a completely different sound to it. DJ Wire puts some really good electro beats and soo well with Example rapping over the top. There are soo many different style son the album, you have some dubstep, dance, hiphop, and indie all combined into one.

The new album from Black Keys is again a really good album. The legacy of their recent Blakroc rap/rock project is felt on "I'm Not the One" and "Too Afraid to Love You", gnarled blues tracks with a loping hip-hop gait. Cant wait to til I get a chance to see these live.

Really like this album, and has a a nice range of singer on the album, including James Mercer of The Shins, The Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Frank Black of the Pixies, Iggy Pop, Nina Persson of The Cardigans, Suzanne Vega, Vic Chesnutt, David Lynch, and Scott Spillane of Neutral Milk Hotel and The Gerbils; these singers also had a hand in composing and producing the work.

NEW ALBUMS I RECOMMEND

OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS I HAVE PURCHASES A HANDFUL OF ALBUMS. MY FAVOURITE ALBUMS WILL BE FEATURED BELOW ON THIS PAGE.

FIRSTLY I WILL TALK ABOUT FLYING LOTUS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ALBUM ’COSMOGRAMMA’, WHAT I LIKE ABOUT FLYING LOTUS IS THAT YOU CAN NEVER IMAGINE WHAT SOUND HE WILL PRODUCE ON HIS NEW WORK. WHEN I FIRST LISTENED TO THIS ALBUM I FELT THAT 'STEVE ELLISON', THE PERSON BEHIND FLYING LOTUS HAS INTRODUCED A NEW SIDE TO HIMSELF. OVER THE YEARS HE HAS BEEN COMPARED TO J DILLA, WHICH I CAN SEE, BUT ‘COSMOGRAMMA’ HAS MORE OF A AMBIET / JAZZ FEEL TO IT. AN ALBUM WHICH STANDS OUT, FROM HIS FRIENDS. A REALLY WELL STRUCTURED ALBUM, AND HEARING IT YOU CAN SEE THAT STEVE ELLISON HAS AN EAR FOR DELICATE MUSIC. TRULLY BRILLIANT

UNKLE’S NEW ALBUM ‘WHERE DID THE NIGHT FALL’ , HAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SOUND TO THEIR OTHER ALBUMS. uNKLE WERE CLASSIFIED AS TRIP HOP, BUT ON THE NEW ALBUM HAS A MORE INDIE ROCK FEEL TO IT. THERE ARE A LOAD OF GUEST APPEARANCES ON THE ALBUM, AND EACH GUEST DOES AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE. THIS IS UNKLE’S FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM, AND MY PERSONAL OPINION IT’S THIR BEST ALBUM YET. WITH SONGS LIKE ‘THE WIRE’, ‘THE ANSWER’, AND JOY FACTORY ARE EXAMPLES, WHY THIS IS UNKLE’S BEST WORK YET.

Recent artist i have been listening to

so over the last few years i have been listening to a lot of metal and hip hop, and although i am a massive fan of both genres i am now at the point of wanting to explores new music and new genres.

I decided to buy some records of bands which have been getting a lot of publicity and one artist who i have been looking at was the return of GIL SCOTT HERON. GIL HAS SPENT MOST OF THE LAST TEN YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEVERAL CONVICTIONS, THE FIRST ONE WAS PROCESSION OF COCAINE AND THE SECOND WAS VIOLATING THE PLEA DEAL ON A DRUG POSSESSION CHARGE BY LEAVING A DRUG REHABILITATION CLINNC. GILLS WROTE MOST OF HIS NEW ALBUM IN PRISON AND THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT HIS VOICE WHICH I REALLY LIKE. I RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO ANYONE WHO IS A GENUINE MUSIC LOVER.

one album i loved last year was jonsi and alex album, and if you are looking for a really nice chilled album then you should definitely check out riceboy sleeps. it is probably one the best albums to come out last year, in my opinion. Jonsi new album ‘go’ is an album which will grow on me. I was instantly attached to ‘riceboy sleeps’, but ‘go’ is an album which i think will be a top 20 album of the year. i really think he is a true talent and can’t believe i wasn't aware of ‘sigur ros’ and will be checking them out very soon.

Another band which i have only recently checked out is stone temple pilot, and i have always been aware of this band but never really had any desire to check them out. when scot departed stp, and joined forces with slash, duff, and matt sorum to form velevt revolver i instantly went out and bought their first album as i am a huge fan of slash. to me he is one of the geatest guitar players of all time. it would really matter to me who he collaborates with as i love listening to his immense guitar riffs. Anyways back to stp, so i get there album ‘four’ andi am not sure about them and how they have sold over 15 million records. i may need to listen to it a few more times.

I have recently bought MGMT debut album and the first track is a track i always heard on the radio but never knew who it was. I really enjoy listening to the first track while driving. The album overall reminds me of the Beatles / the faming lips.

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN - OPTION PARALYSIS

THE FIRST TIME I HEARD ABOUT DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN WAS WHEN I WAS AT READING FESTIVAL 2002 AND THE SINGER ‘ ‘TOOK A SHIT ON STAGE WHILE ON PERFORMING ON STAGE AND THREW IT INTO THE CROWD. LUCKILY I WAS NOT AT PRESENT TO SEE A HUMAN SHIT FLY THROUGH THE CROWD. SO WHEN IT CAME TO THEIR MUSIC I NEVER EXPECTED THEM TO BE A BUNCH OF EMO LADS. IN FACT THEIR MUSIC IS FAR FROM EMO AND TECHNICALLY DILLINGER ARE ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LEVEL. OPTION ANALYSIS IS MOISECORE, TECHINCAL RIFFING, ALTERNATING SCREAMING WITH A COUPLE OF ROCKIER TUNES WHICH I REALLY LIKE. THE OPENING TRACK ‘FAREWELL, MONA LISA’, IS A A PERFECT EXAMPLE ON THE WAY DILLINGER DELIVER THEIR MUSIC. WITH PLENTY OF THRASH DRUMMING, SCREAMING, AND CHANGES NICLEY IN TO A NICE MELODY AND THE SINGERS VOICE SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR TO MIKE PATTON’S. DILLINGER ARE A BAND WHO I COULD NOT LISTEN TO MORE THAN 20 MIMUTES AS ITS INTENSE. I LIKE IT HOUGH BECAUSE ITS USING DIFFERENT INFLUENCES AND THERE IS A INFLUENCE OF MR BUNGLE IN THIS ALBUM WHICH, JUST GOES TO SHOW WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THIS BAND, 9/10

airbourne - no guts, no glory review

i first listened to airbourne a few years back when i was looking for new music and was looking for some new rock n roll. one track i loved when i first heard airbourne was ‘stand up for rock n roll’. great track and all i wanted to do was turn the volume up and get ready to go out. airbourne are the new age ac/dc and from hearing their new album, it is very clear so say that their music is massively influenced my ac/dc which is not always a good thing. give them credit their are some nice riffs on the album and yes it is an album i can and will listen to. the album lacks in originality. i love ac /dc and i feel bands should use their influences and create something new. but would i like about the album is how all the songs are rock n roll. the way i look at it, is trivium try too much to be Metallica and i feel the same about airbourne wanting to be ac/dc...but who doesn’t. 7/10

MF DOOM LIVE AT ROUNDHOUSE

I GOT TO THE VENUE AT 6, THINKING THERE WILL BE A QUEUE TO SEE MF DOOM’S FIRST EVER APPEARENCE IN LONDON. I WAS WRONG. BUT ON THE PLUS SIDE I WAS TO GET RIGHT TO THE FRONT, BUT LITTLE DID I KNOW I WOULD STANDING THERE FOR 4-5 HOURS BEFORE HE CAME ON STAGE. EVENTUALLY AT 11ISH THE MAD VILLAI NS ACCORDING STARTED TO BLAST OUT BUT WAS NOT LONG UNTIL TH ECROWD STARTED TO BOOO!. THEY QUICKLY EXCITED THE STAGE AND WAS WELCOMED MY THE MAN HIM SELF...DOOOM.

DOOM WAVING HIS BRITISH PASSPORT ON STAGE SAYING HE WAS BACK HOME! IT WAS GOOD TO FINALLY SEE DOOM, BUT WAS DISAPPOINTING TO SEE SUCH A SHORT SET. i was sad to not hear doomsday, or any songs from one of the greatet underground hip hop album of all time. all in all it was a great gig and was worth the money to see him.My highlight was hearing meat grinder, figaro and hoe cakes.

Check out my videos from the gig:

Example is the latest British rapper tipped to follow Tinchy Stryder and Dizzee Rascal from the underground to the top of the charts. This is what the critics are saying about example which is a massive turnaround for Example. I can remember when i first heard about Example who at the time was signed to Mike Skinners Label ‘The Beat’. The first single i heard was ‘What we Heard’, of his first album. It blew me away and have since seen his music change to a much more diverse type of british music. Now Example is looking to drop his new album which will have the Britney and Kylie producers Metrophonic have been brought in to work on the Fulham rapper’s second album, Won’t Go Quietly, which is due out in January, while Calvin Harris has contributed a track apparently inspired by Wham.
Although this wasn’t his headline show is was still a show to remember. What i like about Example, was how he got the crowd going. He has since got DJ Wire with his performances and had but a new dance edge to his songs. He played a lot of new songs which got the crowd going, and was a teasing taste of what to expect on his new album. Example was on safer ground with older songs, notably the Carpenters-sampling So Many Roads, which was backed by rave synths and rapped in an accent that was part EastEnders barman, part patois.

WIRELESS FESTIVAL 2009

This year i was able to make the last day of the Wireless festival and managed to see Example, Q Tip and kanye west. There all put on a really good show, but Q Tip did the same set as he did when he performed at the Roundhouse earlier this year which was disappointing but you can never get enough of the A tribe called Quest classics which went down really well and got the crowd going for the headliner Kanye West.

I am a really big fan of Kanye West and admire his work and how he pushes the boundaries of hip hop. I was disappointed with his display and felt that he didn’t interact with the crowd much and was playing songs which felt like they were going on for hours. kanye needs to realize he is a hip hop artist and should stick with what he is good at, instead of being all arty. Was good to hear Jesus Walks, Diamond Forever and of course Gold Digger!

Over the course of the day there was a number of UK artists performing and was annoyed to find out the promoters had changed chipmunk’s slot time which meant i missed him as he was on earlier than expected.... But to all those Hip Hop fans who say that there is not enough UK talent should check out Example when he comes to your town. From the minute he comes on stage he instantly interacts with the crowd and it had to be the best set of the weekend. The remixes were absolutely incredible, and his new song which is produced by calvin harris gives us a taste of what we might expect from his new album.

Hopefully example will play main stage next year as this performance is a definite move forward for the fulham rapper.

Deftones Live at Kentish forum

Deftones came to London to do a warm up show before playing, at both Reading and Leeds Festival. This was the first live performance in the UK without Chi Cheng since his car crash in November 2008 and has been in a coma since. This was the first show in the Uk, with Sergio Vagas ( formerly of Quicksand) as the bassist.

This was my 7th time seeing Deftones and from the last performance, i was very disappointed with the sound and the general performance from Deftones. This tie round was a performance which the fans will never forget. The frontman Chino Moreno looked like he has lost a few pounds, and from the first song ‘Feiticeria’, they played 23 songs , and sounded the best i have ever seen them.

There was a lot of emotion within the crowd, as Chi the bassist is still in a coma, but i give full credit for Sergio who is currently filling in the slot. Overall this was the best i have ever seen Deftones perform and all fans, rock + metal fans should expect Deftones rise to a new level with two new albums in the pipe line.

MICALL PARKNSUN ALBUM LAUNCH

On 24th jULY Micall Parknsun and YNR Productions (Jehst record label) presented the ‘First Second Time Around’ album launch. Special guests was Brad Strut who was performing his new ‘Fallout Shelter’ EP.

If people don’t already know, Jehst is the co founder of YNR productions with Leeds hip hop artist Tommy Evans. His solo career extended further when he apppeared on Task Force’s EP ‘Voice of the Great Outdoors’ (2000) with the track ‘Cosmic Gypsies’. He has been notified one of the best hip hop artists in the UK scene. If you do like UK hip hop, or you don’t and want to get a taste of what it’s like then i recommend all the artists that are under YNR Productions. Artists include: Asaviour, Jyager, Kashmere, Klashenkoff, Sir Smuff Lil, and many more, all of which have released really good lyrical albums which shows a reason why more people should take an interest in UK Hip Hop.

Micall Parknsun is the latest artist to release a brand new studio album on YNR production. He is my favourite artist on the label and tracks such as ‘Dunya; and ;All for Hip Hip’ will explain why. The way his says his words and what he is talking about is to the point and which the help of Jehst, Ghost Town and LG, the beats are truly some of the best beats to come out the UK in a while.
